The Art of Crude Patches

Embroidered patches have been around for centuries as a means of identifying different groups of people, bestowing specific honors, and signifying social and religious significance. In the modern era we're all familiar with military patches and motorcycle club patches. Yet among all the thousands of different types and uses, one stands out as a particularly unique art form that has nothing to do with color, shape, detailed intricacy, etc. the art is found in the words.

I'm referring to none other than crude patches. Crude patches are those containing off-color phrases we aren't normally allowed to speak in social situations. Not that people don't say these things, but rather, these phrases are generally deemed to be crude or offensive in most polite circumstances. I call them an art form because of the fact that constructing such phrases to make them acceptable as embroidered patches takes quite a bit of skill and creativity.

Crude patches are among the most popular sellers because of this very reason. Things people would love to say in public, but don't have the courage to let come out of their mouths, would be perfectly acceptable on an embroidered patch sewn to the front of a leather jacket. In fact, though I hate to admit it, some of the funniest things I've ever read are in the form of these patches. If you'd like to see examples of what I'm talking about, take a look at The Cheap Place website.

It goes without saying that crude patches are not only an art form; they are a matter of personal preference. Some people have no problem wearing them while others would be very cautious. Either way, you can't deny the fact that there are some very creative patch makers who have turned the practice of being crude into an art form.
