One of the best ways to make your jacket or vest stand out is by adding a large embroidered back patch. These patches are typically seven inches or larger, giving your gear an impressive centerpiece. But when it comes to applying large patches, there are some important things to keep in mind.
Ironing Large Patches: Why Professional Heat Press is Best
While small patches can be easily ironed on at home, larger ones can be tricky. The issue with household irons is that they aren’t big enough to cover the entire patch in one go. For the best results, a professional heat press is ideal - it ensures even heat distribution across the entire patch, which is essential for perfect adhesion.
If you're using a household iron, you can still make it work, but patience and precision are key. Set the iron to 260-280°F and hold it steady with pressure on one spot for 30 seconds before moving to the next area.
Forget about running the iron back and forth; a steady hand works best here. Use a frying pan thermometer to make sure your iron reaches the right temperature, as most irons don’t have accurate temperature settings.
Important Tip: Don’t Iron on Leather or Nylon
Always remember, never iron directly onto leather, nylon, or any other heat-sensitive materials. These fabrics can get damaged under high heat. If your jacket or vest is made from leather, sewing the patch on is the safest option. Luckily, all our patches have die-cut borders that make sewing them on a breeze.
Why Our Large Patches Are Popular with Bikers
Our large patches are a biker favorite for several reasons. First, their size means you don’t need many patches to cover your jacket or vest. One large patch can often serve as the main decoration, saving you time and effort.
Secondly, our large patches are incredibly detailed. Whether it’s a bird with intricate feathers or a complex scene with multiple colors, these patches allow for more depth and precision than smaller ones. The vibrant colors and intricate designs really make these patches pop.
A Wide Variety of Designs to Choose From
While there may be fewer large patch designs compared to smaller ones, there’s still a great selection available. You can find patches tailored for bikers, military officers, and even designs made specifically for women. Whatever your style, there’s a large patch out there for you.
Large patches are an easy and effective way to customize your jacket or vest. Whether you're looking for bold imagery or intricate designs, these patches offer a unique way to express yourself. Just remember, for the best results, sew them onto leather or heat-sensitive fabrics, and use a heat press for perfect adhesion on other materials.
