The very words are believed to have been the subtext of orders issued by Julius Caesar as he sent his legions into battle.
Maybe there isn't a cut and dry true meaning. Honor is usually about how other people feel about you or how you would want to feel about yourself. Saving your loved ones, or standing up for yourself in adversity, would make you brave, and others would see it as honor.
