Dalmatians are best known for being companions to fire fighters. With their signature black spots and white fur, they are always pictured in the fire house. What is the origin of the dalmatian as a mascot for fire fighters
History of Fire House Dalmatians
The use of Dalmatians began with horse-drawn wagons that fire fighters rode to the scene of a fire. Since Dalmatians and horses are compatible, the dogs were trained to run in front of the carriages to clear a path and guide the horses and fire fighters to the fire.
