Patrick Swayze

In 2009, Swayze (57) died of pancreatic cancer, just 20 months after being diagnosed. Pancreatic cancer is rare and has few symptoms until it becomes advanced. Steve McQueen

Known as the King of Cool, was the quintessential, anti-hero tough guy. McQueen did his own stunts in some of Hollywood's most iconic car and motorcycle movies, such as Bullitt, Le Mans, and The Great Escape. In 1980, McQueen (50) died following surgery to remove tumors due to mesothelioma. An extremely rare cancer, McQueen may have contracted it from inhaling asbestos from the protective suits he wore while racing or during his time as a Marine removing asbestos lagging from pipes aboard troop ships.

Sammy Davis Jr.

Starred in the original Ocean's 11 with his fellow Rat Pack buddies and was billed as the 'greatest living entertainer' in Vegas. In 1954, he famously lost his left eye in a car accident when he hit the bullet-shaped button on the horn of his Cadillac. In 1990, Davis (64) died of throat cancer and for 10 minutes, the neon lights of the Las Vegas Strip were dimmed in tribute. His Rat Pack buddies, Dean Martin (lung) and Frank Sinatra (bladder) also suffered from cancer.

John Wayne

Probably America's most iconic film actor. The original tough-guy cowboy and patriot, the Duke starred in Hollywood's most classic western and war films, such as True Grit and The Longest Day. In 1979, Wayne (72) died of stomach cancer. While filming The Conqueror in 1956, nearly half the cast and crew developed cancer, rumored to be the result of radioactive fallout from nearby atomic bomb testing. His costars, Susan Hayward (brain) and Agnes Moorehead (uterine) also died from cancer.

Farrah Fawcett

Best known as the original blonde bombshell private eye on Charlie's Angels. She skyrocketed to worldwide fame with her iconic red bathing suit poster, selling a record-breaking 12 million copies. Fawcett was diagnosed with rectal/anal cancer in 2006, and she began filming her battle. In 2009, Fawcett (62) died, but her death was largely overlooked after Michael Jackson died the same day. She was posthumously nominated for an Emmy as producer of her documentary, Farrah's Story.
