Motorcycle Riding Glasses

Motorcycle Riding Glasses Most of us now that the tradition that some bikers have of wearing leather jackets and leather vests come from the servicemen in World War I.

Have you ever wondered where motorcycle riding glasses came from?  They were originally ivory goggles

Ancient Eskimos tribes have been using inuit snow goggles although the timeline is uncertain. With the bright light from the sun that reflects on the snow, they needed the glasses to protect their eyes. Ultraviolet rays from the sun can damage your vision sometimes leading to sun blindness.

They were originally created with ivory from the caribou antler. Wood became a popular source for frames in the twentieth century. Those frames would be custom made to fit that individuals face and the notch over the nose would have to be carved. Eskimos used sinew (muscle or tendon) from a caribou carcass to keep the glasses on their head. To see they cut a slit in the sinew on each side as lenses had not been invented.

I have good news, you don't have to go through all of that trouble! We have a nice selection of super sleek motorcycle riding glasses available in our online store.  There are over a dozen colors to choose from. The riding glasses have foam around the frame for a snug fit and comfort. The foam can also be removed. They have been designed specifically for improved night time motorcycle riding visibility. They have flexible ends around the ears for comfort. Shatterproof lenses are a safety requirement while riding and our glasses all have shatterproof polycarbonate lenses. The lenses feature a layer of XNR film (also known as extreme night riding lenses). They are safe for the day too as they are coated with UV protection.
