Signs you Might Be Dating a Biker

Portrait of a young couple sitting on a motorcycleSometimes, it's very easy to tell that you're about to enter a relationship with a hardcore biker.  But other times, bikers are subtle.  They might try to downplay just how important their motorcycle is to them at first.  Then you move into a committed relationship, or maybe even more in together, and suddenly you realize that he already has a major love, and it's his bike!  If you're wondering if your man (or your woman, ladies can be just as obsessed with their motorcycles) is going to leave you for his motorcycle, take a look at this checklist.  If you say yes to most of these questions, you might be dating a biker!

He Wears a Lot of Leather

While not all bikers do, the stereotypical biker wears leather a lot.  This might just be a leather vest, or it might be a full outfit: leather biker boots, pants, vest, and jacket.  Why?  Because leather is very durable and sturdy.  Bikers prefer it because it will protect them if they crash.  Some wear jeans though, or will actually ride while wearing shorts.

You See a Helmet

Many bikers do wear a full helmet, while others wear half shells.  If you see a helmet in his home, it's a good sign that he rides a bike.  Other people use motorcycle helmets for other things, of course, but the presence of a helmet is a very good sign that you're dating a biker.

He has a long beard

Another biker stereotype is that all biker men have long beards.  Again, it's not always true, but you can certainly add having a beard to your list of proof that he's a motorcycle rider.  If the beard is unkempt, it's an even stronger sign.  The stereotypical biker does not trim his beard that often.  He might also have long hair or hair that's fairly messy.  Of course, some bikers have very short hair and no beards, so this isn't always a clear indicator.

Instead of saying he 'Drove' Somewhere, he says he 'Rode'

Bikers love riding their motorcycles as often as they can.  Even those who have cars will often ride whenever they don't need the extra room and it's nice out.  They'll take a quick motorcycle ride to the grocery store if they just need a few things, or they'll ride to visit friends or for appointments.  Some even ride their bikes to work when they can.  If your date mentions riding, there's a good chance he's not talking about a bicycle.

He Has a Ton of Patches on his Jacket

Many bikers cover their riding jacket with different patches.  It's easy to tell if he's a biker if his jacket is covered with patches relating to motorcycles and motorcycle riding.  But what if his patches don't directly relate to biking?  Some non-bikers will buy some of these patches to use on a jacket since they're very funny or really pretty.  However, if he has a jacket with many patches on it, he's probably a biker.

He Asks You to Drive or Always Wants to Meet You Somewhere

People who ride motorcycles everywhere often have to make up some excuse as to why they can't pick up their dates.  Sometimes, they'll give it a try anyway, but there are many women out there who don't want to ride on the back of a motorcycle.  Some are afraid of falling off or getting into an accident even though that very rarely happens with an experienced rider.  Others do not want to get their clothes dirty or are not comfortable riding on a bike.  To avoid that, some bikers always ask their dates to drive or say that they will meet at the restaurant or other location.  If he's always coming up with an excuse not to drive, he might be hiding his motorcycle.

His Friends are All Bikers

Someone with a lot of friends who are bikers is probably a biker himself.  He might even be part of a motorcycle club.  If you meet some of his friends and they ride bikes or the conversation seems to be all about motorcycles, either he already owns one or he might want to get one in the future.  He might try to change the subject or stay quiet during the conversation so as to not make it look like he's a huge motorcycle lover.

He loves looking at Motorcycles

A man who window-shops for motorcycles may be looking for his next major purchase.  This is especially true if he has ever mentioned wanting to buy one or talks about how he likes how they look.  Some people who aren't bikers yet are just motorcycle lovers in the making.  All it takes is one purchase to make him into a biker!

He's Busy on Really Nice Days

That's a good sign that he wants to go out riding.  While he (hopefully) will not always make up an excuse to spend time with his bike instead of you, he might want to devote a day to riding every now and then.

He Flat out Says he's a Biker!

Some bikers do not play games or try to hide whom they really are.  If he loves his motorcycles, he may be completely upfront about it!  He will pull up to your house on his bike and ask if you want to hop on, or he'll come dressed in his full set of biker gear and tell you he rode up to the restaurant on his Harley or his Honda.  He will make it clear that he loves his motorcycle, and while it might be second to you, it's going to be a pretty close second!  Who knows; he might even convince you that riding is a lot of fun and turn you into a biker.
