If you live in an area where many people own motorcycles, there may already be a club or two for you to join. But if there isn't, you might want to think about forming your own motorcycle club. Now, this isn't quite as quick and easy as it might sound at first. There's a lot of work that has to go into it, but it can be very rewarding.
First of all, you have to advertise the fact that you're starting a motorcycle club. You can put an ad in the local paper and hang up flyers around town. You might also want to put some announcements up on various websites or social media sites that reach out to people in your area. You should include your phone number and the location of the first meeting. This might be your house if you don't have access to a large meeting place. However, you can often reserve meeting rooms for free at places like your local library.
To start with, you may not need to fill out any paperwork to start your club, especially if you plan on being a social group that gets together to ride. However, if you plan to host any events, especially charity events, or collect money for any reason, you may need to incorporate. You may need to become a 501(c)3 organization, which is a non-profit company, in order to make charitable donations and to do things like open an official club bank account. You may also need to create a club constitution and other governing documents if you want to be affiliated with national riding groups like the American Motorcycle Association.
If you just want a group to ride with, it really is pretty simple to start a club, but at some point, you may wish to do more, and that takes a little bit of work.
