Friday September 26 marked the beginning of the annual Street Vibrations, a motorcycle rally held in Reno and Sparks, Nevada. This rally is actually somewhat controversial because of how many bikers invade the area. Street Vibrations is the fourth largest biker rally in the United States, and the area of Sparks, Reno, and Virginia City is transformed for the weekend. Thousands of bikers will be roaring into the city for Street Vibrations, filling up hotels, and bringing a lot of money into the local economy.
Bikers, unlike some of the other large events hosted in Reno, tend to do more than just look around the rally. They ride all around the area, including up to Lake Tahoe. As with most rallies, there are organized rides, competitions, poker runs, scavenger hunts, and other games. Vendors selling everything from chrome bike parts to motorcycle vest patches will be set up in various locations, and bikers will gather to get autographs and meet the special guest stars. This year, Paul Teutul Sr. from American Chopper and Danny Koker of Counting Cars will both be in attendance, and Koker will perform along with his band at the Jagermeister Stage, the outdoor performance area hosted by the Eldorado.
The Reno Ballroom will be hosting America's Finest Custom Bike Builders. Expo and the Bike Corral, an area where participants can buy and sell motorcycles. There is also a tattoo expo and performances by Huey Lewis and the News and more.
There are a number of other events at the rally as well. The Virginia and Truckee Railroad's Polar Express train ride departed Carson City depot and Diana Ross performed at the Thunder Valley stage on Saturday.
