It's rally time, Sturgis starts in a couple days!
Sturgis is a motorcycle rally that takes place in Sturgis, South Dakota that lasts as long as ten days. The highest number of attendance has been recorded to be around 739,000 in 2015. Sturgis is a growing event that includes half mile races, hillclimbs, short-track races, tours around the area , live entertainment and more. It will be well worth it for the fun packed rally week.
The founder of Sturgis, Clarence "Pappy" Hoel.
Hoel purchased an Indian Motorcycle Franchise in Sturgis, SD in 1936.
Shortly after the purchase, the Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club was formed and the first rally known as the Black Hills Classic in 1938, which was a race among nine participants, launched the annual event thereafter. The length of the rally was only expected to be one day but over the years grew to be over one week long. There was a gap between consistent rally years because it was canceled in 1942 in result of gas rationing, in support of World War II.
