Why You Might Want a Sidecar

Many bikers don't really like the look of sidecars.  They seem bulky and make a motorcycle less aerodynamic.  They might look uncool, but there are some great reasons why adding a sidecar to your motorcycle can be very helpful.  Since most can easily be attached or detached, you can remove the sidecar when you don't really need it and attach it when you do.  Don't immediately discount this helpful attachment just because you don't like how it looks.

One of the most obvious reasons for adding a sidecar to your motorcycle is that it gives you room to carry an extra passenger.  Yes, most bikes can accommodate a passenger behind the rider, and some large cruisers even have a full extra seat, but it's not always the most comfortable way to travel.  The sidecar gives the passenger a slightly larger seat.  They also don't have to be as active? when riding behind the driver, the passenger needs to turn into curves and make sure their weight is distributed correctly.  That's not as much of a concern in a sidecar.

Then there's the extra storage option.  While your saddlebags may be plenty of space for running errands and taking weekend trips, they're not going to be large enough to handle major grocery shopping or a long trip.  You can use your sidecar as a trunk, putting your packages or extra gear in it.

If you have a pet you want to take on a motorcycle trip with you, it's basically impossible to do without a sidecar.  Yes, some bikers do actually take their trusty canine companion with them in their sidecar!  You'll definitely want to do a few slow trial runs to make sure your dog doesn't jump out, of course, before taking him on a long trip with you.
