I'm sure you'd agree that with all the crap going on in the world around us, we all need a good laugh every day. I was browsing through the funny patches at the Cheap Place today and saw plenty that made me laugh my butt off. My favorite's got to be the Catholic School Survivor patch! If that's not funny to you, you probably never attended Catholic school. But for those of us who endured the nuns in black habits with zero tolerance for anything pleasurable, this funny patch is priceless.
I went to Catholic school from kindergarten through eighth grade. I'm happy to report that I was a model student; always wearing my tie, using proper manners, and holding my bladder and bowel movements until the scheduled lavatory time. I did my best to stay on the good side of Sr. Mary 'The Punisher' Margaret and Fr. Patrick 'Shenanigans' O'Malley. Although I must admit, I did get my fair share of sore knuckles from the steel ruler.
Looking back on that experience of more than 30 years ago, I can laugh about it now. As much as we Catholic school survivors like to tell horror stories about our experience, it was filled with good times and plenty of fun. As for the nuns and priests, they were only as strict as they were because they were looking out for us. So yes, I survived. And I'm grateful for the experience.
