A POW MIA Patch with a Twist

Confederate POW MIA PatchThere are a lot of POW MIA patches in the US Veteran Patches category.  Most of them feature the traditional POW/MIA You Are Not Forgotten motto and emblem.  This emblem, featuring a silhouette of a man with a guard tower behind him, has been the symbol of those who have lost a loved one or have a loved one being held as a prisoner of war since the Vietnam War.  The Confederate POW MIA Patch, however, has a slight twist to it that makes it look a little different.

That twist is that behind the POW/MIA emblem is a Confederate Army battle flag instead of simple white space.  The letters and area behind the silhouette are done in the red, blue, and white flag used by the southern states after the succeeded from the union during the U.S. Civil War.  This gives the emblem a very different look, but it also adds color to something that usually doesn't have any. Usually, this variant of the POW/MIA flag is worn by those from one of the former Confederate states who have a loved one missing in action or held as a prisoner of war.

One interesting note is that the flag most people think of as the Confederate Flag, the red rectangle with crossed blue bars with white stars going from corner to opposite corner, is actually a version of the square Confederate Army battle flag.  The Confederacy had several different flags, and there were several different variations of each; one, the 'Stars and Bars', more closely resembles the U.S. flag.  The second national flag, the Stainless Banner, more closely resembles what we call the Confederate Flag.
