A Rocker Patch for Louisiana Residents

Louisiana PatchDo you hail from the Southern state of Louisiana?  If you do, you might want to add a Louisiana Patch to your jacket.  This State Rocker patch lets everyone know you're from Louisiana and proud of it.  It measures just 4 by 1.75 inches.  You can also sew or iron it on to the front of a vest if you'd like.  The patch is arched slightly to sit better on the shoulder.

Louisiana is unique among the other states of the U.S. for several reasons.  First is its culture.  The state is a mixture of French, Native American, African, and Spanish.  Stating in the 18th century, these different cultures began merging, and the end result was a very unique state.  This mixing has to do with the fact that Louisiana had been both a French and a Spanish colony at different points in time.

Another unique fact about Louisiana is that it breaks down areas into parishes instead of counties like most states do.  This, again, is due to the influence of the French and Spanish.  Both colonies were a part of the Roman Catholic church, which divides areas into ecclesiastical parishes.

In 1812, Louisiana became the 18th state to be admitted to the union.  It is sometimes known at the Bayou State, the Pelican State, and the Sugar State.  The current capital city is Baton Rouge, although the largest and most popular city is New Orleans.  Louisiana is known for its swampy bayou land and for its hurricanes: one of the most devastating, Hurricane Katrina, struck southeastern Louisiana in 2005.

If you're interested in learning about and experiencing different cultures, Louisiana is a great place to visit.  Immersing yourself in the Creole and Cajun cultures alone is worth the trip.
