A Texas Flag Patch

Texas Flag PatchMany bikers like to wear patches that let others know what state they're from.  While it's easy to find patches with the state name, it's not always easy to find patches that show off the state flag.  However, that's not always the case with Texas.  Take the Texas flag patch (with white border), for example.  It's a great representation of the state flag, and it's usually pretty easy to find from dealers.  Of course, you can order one from us, too.

The flag of Texas is called the Lone Star Flag since it features one large white star on the blue vertical stripe on the left side of the flag.  The right two-thirds are divided horizontally.  The top part is white, while the bottom is red.  This flag has a very interesting history.  It was originally the flag of the Republic of Texas, the country that existed in from 1836 until 1846, when Texas became a U.S. state.  No one really knows who designed the flag, although Charles Stewart usually gets credit for it.  There's no evidence that he was the designer, however.

Many people believe that the Texas state flag is the only state flag that can be flown at the same height as the United States flag.  That's actually not true.  According to the story, the Texas flag can be flown at the same height because the state was originally an independent nation.  However, the U.S. flag code actually says that any state can fly its flag at the same height as the Stars and Stripes if it's on a separate pole and placed on the viewer's left (with the U.S. flag on the right).  When on the same flagpole, however, the Texas flag is always the lower of the two.
