All Bikers Need to Know a Mechanic

Mechanic patchWhile many bikers do enjoy working on their bikes and tinkering around with engines, some don't.  Others simply do not have the skills to work on their own motorcycles or the time to do it.  Instead, they go to a mechanic.  These people have the skills and training to work on motorcycles and other vehicles.  Sometimes, they've learned how to work on bikes from a professional program or from working in a mechanic's shop.  Others seem to be innately born with the ability to work on engines.  They have an uncanny ability to figure out exactly what's wrong with a bike just by listening to it.

Finding a good mechanic is, for a biker, absolutely vital.  You don't want to trust your motorcycle to just anyone, after all.  You need to find someone who knows how to fix your motorcycle correctly and for a fair amount of money.  Bad mechanics take too long, might not find the problem the first time around, and may even overcharge you for their horrible service.

If you're part of a motorcycle club, chances are someone in the group will know a great mechanic and can recommend them to you.  If you aren't in a club and don't know other bikers, you may have to take a chance with a random mechanic you pick out of the phone book or from an online directory.  You could go to the same person who works on your car, but there's no guarantee they will be a great bike mechanic.

Are you a mechanic yourself?  If so, add a Mechanic patch to your jacket so everyone knows you're the person to ask for help.
