Are you a Nerd? This Patch Proclaims You Are!

Nerd patchAre you a nerd?  Do you love math, computer programming, and science?  Nerds are typically described as someone who is overly intelligent and usually a little socially awkward.  They love things that are highly technical and detailed.  They're not always into things like Dungeons & Dragons or science fiction shows (those would be geeks), but they do often love things like that.  This Nerd Patch declares you one of the intellectual nerdy types.  It's one of the New Patches available on The Cheap Place.

You might be surprised to learn who first used the word nerd.  It wasn't a dumb jock beating up the smart kid.  No, it was actually Dr. Seuss!  He first used the word 'nerd' in his 1950 book 'If I Ran the Zoo'.  It wasn't used to describe a super smart person then.  It soon became synonymous with 'square', the word for a unhip, unpopular person.  Soon, the word was associated with those who were bookworms or socially inept.  It wasn't until the 1970s and the word's use on the TV show Happy Days that it became a widely used term.  While it was a derogatory term at first, today many nerds wear the title with honor and are proud of being a nerdy.

If you have nerd pride, you need this fun patch.  It measures four inches wide by an inch and a half.  While you might want to put it on your jacket or vest so others can identify you as a nerd, it also works really well on a book bag, backpack, or laptop bag.  You can attach it using a hot iron to melt the plastic backing, or you can sew it on.  If you're putting it on leather, you'll have to sew it on so you don't damage the clothing.
