Are You A Triker?

Triker PatchWhile many bikers ride motorcycles, some ride trikes.  Trikes are three-wheeled bikes that feature two large wheels on the back and one single wheel on the front (called a delta trike).  In this configuration, they resemble tricycles with engines.  Some trikes are built in reverse, they have two wheels in the front and one on the back.  This configuration is called a tadpole trike.  Either way, these vehicles are more difficult to tip over than standard motorcycles are.

In addition to being easier to balance, trikes also have a few other benefits.  It's easier to carry multiple passengers on a trike because the back seat is usually larger.  Trikes also don't require the passenger or the driver to balance as much.  Trikes are considered a motorcycle as far as licenses go in the United States, so driving one gives motorcycle drivers the option for a larger vehicle without getting a full car license.

A few companies do produce trikes, including Piaggio, Harley-Davidson, Bombardier Recreational Products, and a few others.  However, many trikes are custom built.  Bikers who are adventurous mechanics often take small engines such as those used in VW Beetles and install them into a small sub-frame.  Some parts from a standard motorcycle frame, like the transmission and the axels, may also be used.

If you love your trike and want the world to know you ride one, add this cool Triker Patch to your biker jacket or other piece of rider gear.  It will stand out due to its bold red border and lettering.
