Christians who are not shy about their faith are always looking for new and creative ways to get the message out without getting in the face of others. For a long time the favorite method has been hats and t-shirts, bumper stickers, little cartoon booklets, and leaflets. But more and more of the faithful are discovering Christian patches.
There have been Christian motorcycle clubs for a long time, and yes, they have known about the patches. They buy their black leather vests and put a big old Christian rocker patch on the back. But let's face it, most Sunday church goers are not the Harley type. Not that they have anything against their bike-riding brethren, its just that the idea of wearing patches never occurs to them.
I used to know a Christian biker who lived in the same area I did. I remember that he wasn't at all ashamed of his faith. He rode his bike everywhere when the weather cooperated, the rest of the time he drove a sedan like everyone else. But regardless of the weather or his ride, he was always wearing his leathers. When he retired he and his wife sold their possessions, bought a a small tent trailer to hitch to his Harley, and hit the road to minister to bikers. He and his wife still travel around, taking Bibles and the gospel to any bikers that want them.
I have a lady friend, single and in her 50s, who's a big biker too. When she moved down to North Carolina to be in nicer weather, the first thing she did was buy a new bike. She got herself a vest, joined a local Christian biker club, and sewed on the back patch right away. You know, it would be funny to see them both visit church together some day with a patch that says 'these ARE my church clothes'.
Personally, I think it's awesome when Christians are willing to show their faith. Too often the only thing we hear about are the pastors who are arrested for molesting kids, or the ones who steal from the congregation. But for every Christian that goes wrong, there's another one who is loyal to his family, active in his community, and doing the best he can. To judge the entire group by a small handful of people is childish, regardless of the group.
If you're a Christian who's a little shy to speak out, maybe a Christian patch or two from thecheapplace.com is what you need. They have prayer patches, Jesus patches, even some funny ones like 'Catholic School Survivor'. A patch on your jacket is a great way to tell people the gospel without intimidation or accusation. You may never get the opportunity to lead someone to the cross directly, but your patch could be the tiny little seed that gets sown in a heart. If that heart is eventually converted, you're a part of it. How cool is that?
