Don't Grab The Phone, Grab Your Gun

357 Beats 911 PatchAt first, I thought the .357 Beats 911 patch had something to do with the September 11 terrorist attacks, but after I thought about it for a minute, I realized just what it meant.  This patch is a 2nd Amendment patch, meaning it's talking about the constitutional amendment that guarantees people the right to bear arms.  This right is something of an issue in the United States.  Some people strongly agree that they have a right to own a gun and defend themselves, while others believe that if no one had guns, there would be much less crime and many fewer murders.

If you believe you have a right to own a gun, this patch is one way of saying so.  A .357, if you don't know, is a caliber measurement of a bullet.  It's one of the biggest bullets you can buy, and if it doesn't hit a bone, it will go clean through a person.  The other number, 911, isn't a date like I first thought but the phone number for emergency services.  Thus, the patch is saying that if you're being attacked in your home, don't grab the phone to call for help.  Instead, grab a gun and blow the intruder away!

Whether you agree with owning guns or not, you have to admit that there is a bit of truth to this patch.  Grabbing the phone and dialing 911 isn't going to make armed policemen magically appear in your home, but pointing a gun at your assailant may make him think twice before attacking you.  Wearing this patch will let everyone know that you're going to reach for a gun before the phone.
