Road captains, you play a very important part in any bike ride. You're responsible for making certain that everyone in your motorcycle club gets from point A to point B without getting lost. You also have to consider when to stop, what route to take, and when to turn around or make unexpected stops due to weather. The road captain has a lot of responsibility at times, especially on really long rides. That's why it's important that everyone know who is in charge. This Road Captain Patch will make sure that all of your riders know who the captain is. It's available as one of the Uniform Patches.
If you're the road captain, you'll start out giving all of the riders an overview of where you're going, what roads you'll be taking, and how fast you'll be going. You will want to make sure that everyone knows how to ride in a staggered formation and whether everyone needs to keep up or go at their own pace. You'll let new riders know what kinds of hand signals you use and what your group's riding style is. You need to make sure everyone knows what to do if they break down, too.
As the captain, you'll lead the ride. You may have a couple of deputy captains working with you, one of them, usually called the sweep rider, will bring up the rear. If you have a lot of riders, you may have a deputy riding in the middle of the group to make sure no one gets lost.
