Show Your Pride in the Marines with this Semper Fi Patch

If you're a member of the United States Marine Corps, you know what Semper Fi means.  It's the shorthand version of the Latin motto of the Marines.  The full version, Semper Fidelis, means 'always faithful' or 'always loyal'.  While the slogan has been used by many different groups over the years, it's most often associated with the Marines, at least in the U.S.  If you believe in this motto, you need to add the Semper Fi Patch to your jacket.  It's listed under the Military Patches category on The Cheap Place.

The first use of Semper Fi as a motto seems to have come from the 16th century.  Since then, a number of military groups have used the saying.  The Devonshire Regiment in Exeter, U.K, used the motto during the 1850s.  The West Nova Scotia Regiment of Canada also used it.  Corps, regiments, and divisions of the Dutch Royal Military Academy, the United States Army, the Portuguese Marine Corps, the China Marine Corps, the Hungarian Government Guard, and the Swiss Grenadiers have also featured the motto on their logos and signage over the years.  Several cities and schools have also used the motto.

This patch measures 3.5 inches across by 1.5 inches tall.  The background is black, but unlike most sayings patches, the lettering is not done in white.  Instead, Semper Fi is embroidered in red with a yellow outline connecting all of the letters.  The font is done in Old English to make the patch look a little different.  The die cut black borders make it quick and easy to sew this patch onto leather, while the heat-activated plastic backing makes it simple to iron it on to other materials.
