I'm having so much fun with these skull patches that I've chosen the Skull Ace Of Spades patch for today's post. This one features the Ace of Spades with a skull directly in the center of the card. I was very intrigued by this design due to the implications of the Ace of Spades, but I how many people understand the significance of it?
The Ace of Spades is also known as the "death card." Its history goes back to ancient Wiccan folklore, which I'll not go into here, but the theme has been carried through to the modern age. For example, the Ace of Spades was used by the U.S. military in printing leaflets to be dropped on the North Vietnamese, even though the Vietnamese culture does not equate it with death. More notable however, was the use of the card during the mob wars of the 1930s. It was not uncommon to see a mob member executed with the Ace of Spades placed in his hand.
Though most people will not make the connection this is still a great patch to wear on your biker clothing. If nothing else, it might cause a few people to stop and ask questions. Just make sure you know the history behind it so you can give an intelligent answer. And by the way, this patch has a heat sensitive backing which allows it to be attached to anything, except leather, simply with a hot iron. Enjoy!
