If you do a lot of riding at night or during the early morning or late evening, it's important that you do so safely. One of the biggest dangers to those riding motorcycles in the dark is not being seen. Bikers tend to wear dark clothing as it is, especially black leather jackets, which can make it hard for other motorists to see you. This is especially true if your bike has a light out and is painted a dark color.
If you frequently ride at night, make it a point to regularly check your lights. It's easy to tell if your headlight is out, but it's not so easy to notice your tail light. Also, be sure to keep your light covers clean so the light isn't obscured.
You should also make certain you could be seen if you get off your bike. In the past, some bikers would wear bright orange or yellow reflective jackets at night. These are effective, but they are also incredibly ugly. You may also need to stow them in your side bags, and that can take up space you may need for other things.
