One of the newer embroidered patches in the Military Patches section at The Cheap Place is the Vietnam War Vet patch. It's a large, 12" patch generally intended for the back of a vest or jacket, underneath a back patch. But if you take a look at it you'll notice it looks a little different than most other rocker patches. Instead of using straight block letters and more elegant styling, this patch features a bold yellow and red flame design.
The design is appropriate when you consider that Vietnam was an unusual war for the United States. It was one that garnered large-scale protests and was largely thought of as a conflict we had no business being in. Whether you agree with the war effort or not, it can't be denied that Vietnam was as much a conflict at home as it was overseas. This patch uniquely displays that conflict.
In writing this post it dawned on me that most of our World War II veterans, if not all of them, have probably passed on by now. That means our older combat-experienced veterans will have served in Korea or Vietnam. If you're a Vietnam veteran this patch makes a great addition to your riding jacket or your combat field jacket, if you still wear it. With Veterans Day coming up this is the perfect time to get one of these embroidered patches and display it proudly. You've earned the right to do so.
