The U.S. Doesn't Run

The saying that colors don,t run comes from the fact that some colors fade or run when washed.  The pigments don't stick to the material and can end up running to other materials.  This makes the overall image look washed out.  While some people do actually like that look, many people prefer their shirts to stay colorful.

This 'These Colors Don't Run U.S. Flag' patch, however, twists the phrase to mean that red, white, and blue, the colors of the U.S. flag don't run or retreat when attacked.  This phrase has been used off and on over the years, but it became especially popular following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.  Extremely patriotic people used the phrase to indicate that nothing would scare off the American people from fighting back.  They wouldn't run for terrorists no matter what happened.  The red, white, and blue will remain as strong and bright as ever, no matter how many terrorists attempt to wash them out.

Today, the saying is still used, but it's not quite as popular as it once was.  Still, it's often paired with an image of the U.S. flag and featured on bumper stickers, patches, and posters.  If you're looking for patriotic patches for jackets, this is a good one.  The flag's bright colors look very nice and are a great way of reminding people how much pride you have in your country.  Just remember to replace the patch if it starts to look faded, that would kind of go against the message it's trying to send.
