This Patch Reminds Us that the Government is Watching

One nation under surveillance patchAs technology has evolved, so too have the different methods for keeping people under surveillance.  This is especially true in the U.S. in the years following the 9-11 attacks.  With the passing of the Patriot Act and other legislation, it seems like everywhere you look, there's a camera or other type of surveillance device.  You're on video at the bank, at the gas station, at the grocery store, everywhere.  You can even see security cameras in the mall parking lot and outside of restaurants.

This patch features a security camera and the words 'One nation under surveillance' done in red, white, and blue.  The Constitution of the United States guarantees our freedoms, but the country has become more and more restrictive due to different attacks and other lawbreakers.  It's bad enough that we're on camera in stores, but many stoplights also now have video cameras on them that will record the license plate number of any car speeding through them.  There are also cameras on toll roads to catch those who don't pay the toll.  The government likes to say that law-abiding citizens have nothing to fear from these cameras, but who really knows what's happening with the footage.  What if security staff members are using cameras to stalk people?  While they say there are no cameras in public restrooms, how do we really know for certain?

This patch helps remind everyone that going out in public means voluntarily putting ourselves on tape.  It measures four inches by one inch and is made out of twill with rayon embroidery thread.  This funny patch can be ironed on to your clothing using a hot iron, or if you're putting it on leather or nylon, it can be sewn on.
