This Patch Reminds Us Who the Real Heroes Are

Heroes dont wear capes patchMany kids love their superheroes.  Batman, Superman, the X-Men, Thor, they look up to these brave characters who save the world time and time again.  But these are fictional characters.  The real heroes, as this patch reminds us, are the men and women who fight for our freedoms.  This 2nd Amendment Patch states that true heroes don't wear capes like Superman.  They wear dog tags.

The Heroes Don't Wear Capes, They Wear Dog Tags Patch features white text on a black background.  It also has a small dog tag in the bottom right corner.  The men and women in the military wear these dog tags so, if the worst happens and they are killed in duty, they can be identified.  Dog tags also contain essential medical information.  They are usually made out of stainless steel or aluminum.  Soldiers wear them at all times during combat situations.  Often, they have two tags on a chain so that one can be removed for record keeping and notification while the other remains with the body.

Dog tags were first introduced in the U.S. military during the American Civil War.  Soldiers started writing their names and addresses on a paper card that they tried to always carry with them.  Soon, companies that produced ID badges started making ones specifically designed for soldiers.  However, it wouldn't be until 1906 that the U.S. would distribute identification tags to its solders.

This patch measures 4 long by 1.5 inches tall.  It can be ironed on to different materials without too much difficulty, but if you're putting it on leather, be sure to sew it on.  Leather does not take heat very well.
