If you like old gangster films with a heavy dose of wise guys and tommy guns, we have a small, embroidered patch we think you'll truly appreciate. It's the Tommy Gun Bulldog patch. It depicts exactly what its name says: a personified bulldog toting his little friend.
Hollywood has admittedly glamorized the golden days of the American mob, circa the 1920s and 30s. That's where we get our images of sinister looking men in dark suits sucking on cigars and speaking in code. It's also where we get the idea that every mobster owned a tommy gun way back then.
A lot of what we think we know about the American mob comes from Hollywood. And much of it is wrong. Nonetheless, this embroidered patch does a nice job of encapsulating Hollywood's impression of the American mobster. The choice of a personified bulldog with a red tank top that clearly shows off his muscles perfectly illustrates the tough guy image we associate with mobsters. As for the tommy gun, it is one of the most recognized symbols of organized crime in that era.
The Tommy Gun Bulldog patch measures 3x4 inches. Being taller than it is wide, it offers a different perspective compared to our rectangular patches. We think it is the perfect pocket patch, meaning it's just the right size to attach to the back pocket of a pair of jeans or one of the front pockets of a denim vest.
The red/blue/gray color scheme really looks good against blue denim. Its thick, black border also does a good job of separating the image from whatever material you decide to sew it to. By the way, use a black thread all the way around the border and no one will see it. That's just a little tip from us.
