Verified BuyerI install a lot of flag patches in my leather and sewing shop. I stock both left and right handed US flags with gold edges. I usually sew them onto vests and hats. But, I sometimes sew them onto sleeves, just under the shoulder joint on the jacket or shirt. The edges sew well without separating or ratting the thread.
Verified BuyerI sew patches onto Bikers' vest, jackets and hats. I iron them onto denim garments and sew them onto leather or ball caps. All of the patches I buy from TheCheapPlace have tight borders that I can sew through without separating or ratting the edges. Those requiring ironing on adhere well using the high heat setting and pressing hard.

Sewing patches onto bikers' vests, jackets and hats is a large part of my business. I stock quite a few patches, especially US and Confederate flags in small sizes. I have used different suppliers in the past, but switched to The Cheap Place around the end of 2021. I am totally satisfied with the prices and quality of all of the patches I have purchased here. While they all have iron-on backings, I rarely use it because 99.9% of the items are real leather vests and you can't trust the adhesive to keep them on in all kinds of temperatures and weather.. I secure them for sewing with commercial strength double-sided tape, or staple them in place, then sew them on using various industrial sewing machines. I have long reach staplers that cover 12 inches from the edge.
When sewing patches over pockets, or zippered back linings, I use an Adler 30-7 long arm, big bobbin, or a Singer 29k71 short arm, small bobbin "patcher." Patchers are made for shoe and boot repairs and have a slender, tapered cylinder arm and are top driven by a revolving foot that pulls the work in any direction. These patchers have a very narrow nose and gearbox that gets inside front, side, and inside pockets where no other machine can go without opening the lining to avoid closing the pockets. For patches sewn through the lining I either use a flat bed or post bed walking foot machine.
The edges of the patches made by The Cheap Place are tightly serged, or embroidered, and don't separate or rat when I sew through them with a round point needle. If you are going to sew patches onto leather vests, I strongly recommend using a round point needle instead of a leather point. This is because the visible top layer is cloth and embroidery thread. The leather under them is not visible. Leather point needles tend to slice and separate cloth fibers. I normally use a #18 round point titanium coated needle with #69 bonded thread. These needles have no problem penetrating leather vests and jackets. Just don't use a larger needle than necessary.
Finally, I appreciate that some of the more popular designs are available in at least two sizes, and/or color schemes, with some in three sizes and colors. And, don't ignore lady biker sayings and designs. They like to express their feelings and beliefs as much as the men do. Also, if like me, you are reselling patches, don't act as a censor if your customers ask about getting political or otherwise controversial patches.
PS: If you can't sew patches over pockets, look me up. People mail or UPS vests and jackets to me for patch sewing. My business website is at: https://www.rw-leatherworks.com.

Verified BuyerThank you for my being able to complete the requirement needed for my colours. Because of the border closing and that stupid Arrive Can the person who had innaley ordered the flags two years ago would not go over to retrieve the flag and so I had to do the ordering and you people came up superb. Thank you very much
